A-level Maths & Further Maths
A* Maths is the baseline at every top university now — not the thing that sets you apart. I get students there with room to spare, and teach the deeper fluency that makes Further Maths, the TMUA and STEP feel familiar rather than foreign.

Why it's the foundation
Most students reach a B or A through pattern-matching — recognising question types and reproducing methods. It works until it doesn't: one unfamiliar twist, and the marks vanish. The A* comes from genuine understanding of why the methods work, which is also the only foundation sturdy enough to build TMUA and STEP on.
So we don't just cover the syllabus. We build the fluency, the speed and the exam-craft that turn a strong student into one who finds the paper easy — and who's ready for whatever comes next.
Who I work with
Sitting on an A and need the A* for a top offer — we close the gap with technique and targeted practice.
The step up to Further Maths is steep — we make Core Pure and the options feel natural, not overwhelming.
Aiming at the TMUA or STEP — we teach the A-level with the depth those papers quietly assume.
What we cover
Every strand of the syllabus, taught for understanding — algebra and functions, calculus, trigonometry, vectors, kinematics and the statistics content, with the exam technique to match.
Complex numbers, matrices, further calculus and the option modules — the content that opens the door to Maths at the most competitive universities, and underpins STEP.
All major exam boards — Edexcel, AQA, OCR and OCR (MEI). I tailor to yours.
The teaching
Every topic built from why it works, so it holds under unfamiliar questions — not just the ones you've seen.
A diagnostic finds exactly where marks are leaking, and the plan goes straight there — no wasted hours.
Mark-scheme habits, presentation and timing — the difference between knowing it and scoring it.
Recorded lessons, clean PDF notes and an emailed summary after each session — revise from your own course.
Why me for A-level
Because I spend my days on the TMUA and STEP, I teach the A-level the way the best universities wish it were taught — for genuine understanding. An Oxford MPhil and award-winning LSE tutor — twelve years of it, 14,000 hours one-to-one. Your A* is the floor we build on.
A-level questions
Yes — Edexcel, AQA, OCR and OCR (MEI) for both Maths and Further Maths. The mathematics is shared across boards; I tailor the emphasis and past-paper work to yours.
For a top offer it often is. The gap between an A and an A*, or between coping with Further Maths and mastering it, is exactly the kind of margin one-to-one work is built to close — and it's also where the foundation for admissions tests is laid.
Absolutely — that's the ideal. We teach the A-level with the depth the admissions tests assume, so the two reinforce each other rather than competing for time. I'll map out the combined plan on our call.
